Reading dual language text books

The Takahe team have began reading dual-language text books - these are books that have words in both english and a pasifika language (Tongan, Samoan, Niuean, Cook Island Maori and Tokelau).

In Room 8 we read the book 'I he Malaʻe Vakapuna - At the Airport in Tongan.

If you click the the link you will be able to hear it read in Tongan: 'I he Malaʻe Vakapuna´ (MP3 2MB)

Here is a video we created of the children sharing their work and reading of the story.
We hope you enjoy it :)

  1. Kia ora Room 8,
It is exciting to see you reading dual language books. Thanks for sharing the link so I could listen to. It's great to listen so you can get your head around the pronunciation of some of the words. Do you have many people in your class who are from Tonga or can speak Tongan? I bet they love having stories and reading in Tongan.
    Tania
