Reading dual language text books

The Takahe team have began reading dual-language text books - these are books that have words in both english and a pasifika language (Tongan, Samoan, Niuean, Cook Island Maori and Tokelau).

In Room 8 we read the book 'I he Malaʻe Vakapuna - At the Airport in Tongan.

If you click the the link you will be able to hear it read in Tongan: 'I he Malaʻe Vakapuna´ (MP3 2MB)

Here is a video we created of the children sharing their work and reading of the story.
We hope you enjoy it :)

Airport Trip

This term we learned about floating, sinking and flying. As a part of our inquiry learning we were lucky enough to visit Auckland Airport! We watched planes come in to land and watched planes take off. Then we went to the airport and walked around to find pictures for our scavenger hunt! We had such a great experience at the Auckland Airport.

On the bus to the airport.

Watching all the planes come in to land was so exciting!

Paper Mache

A few weeks ago we posted some pictures of us creating some paper mache art! We had to wait a while for them to dry and then add another layer of newpaper and glue. Finally we got to paint them. We made our own baskets from recycled cardboard to add to our baskets to finish them off.. Then we had finally finished our AMAZING hot air balloons. Look how awesome they look hanging in our room!

Celebrating Matariki

We celebrated Matariki this year by learning about Matariki with a scavenger hunt along with Room 6 and 7 - this was so much fun! We also made kites, did weaving and planted a tree along with all the other classes.
