Samoan Language Week

For Samoan Language Week we learned some new words from our expert Samoan speakers in the classroom. Here's some words we learned!
hello - talofa
thank you - fa'afetai
have a good day - manuia le aso
goodbye - tofa

We also practised counting to ten in samoan - did you ever notice how similar it is to counting to ten in maori? We think that's pretty cool!
Samoan and Maori numbers to ten
tasi - tahi
lua - rua
tolu - toru
fa - wha
lima - rima
ono - ono
fitu - whitu
valu - waru
iva - iwa
sefulu - tekau

We also started on some Samoan patterned art which we will share when it is finished! Here's a Samoan video we made: By room valu

  1. Hi Room 8. We liked how you told us the Samoan greetings. This reminds us of counting in Te Reo and Samoan. Was it challenging pronouncing some of the words? From Room 3.
